The Science Behind Integrated Care
This 2002 study is considered the foundational study for integrated care, and the study examined over 1800 patients in two groups: team-based care and fragmented care. 45% of patients in the integrated team group saw their depression symptoms cut in half within a year, compared to just 19% of those left to navigate separate providers on their own. This study has led to over a hundred subsequent clinical trials, expanding the integrated care model.
When researchers examined data from nearly 80 independent worldwide studies, which included over 24,000 patients, there was statistically significant improvement in anxiety and depression outcomes for the integrated model in all short, medium, and long-term.
