988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline offers a free, 24/7, and confidential mental health helpline. They offer help for thoughts of suicide, self-harm, addiction, mental health struggles, emotional distress, and concerns for a loved one. If you are feeling completely overwhelmed and don't know where to turn, the 988 Lifeline is a safe, completely confidential place to start.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), founded in 1979 by a small group of families, has empowered those affected by mental illness. They offer free community education, peer-led support groups, advocacy, and a helpline for free information.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the largest biomedical research agency in the United States. This federal agency offers up to date mental health topic overviews, mental health statistics, and extensive research.

MedlinePlus offers reliable health information in a way that is easy to understand. This federal website includes comprehensive information on health conditions, diseases, prescription drugs, and explanations of medical tests.

The Anxiety and Depression A ssociation of America (ADAA) is a nonprofit dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and related disorders. They offer free education and peer support groups, and the ADAA raises awareness for the causes and treatments of mental illness.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides a centralized hub of resources for individuals and families. This federal agency is providing mental health information, expanding care access, supporting caregivers, reducing stigma, and seamlessly connecting those in distress to helplines.

If you are experiencing an emergency or need immediate assistance, please call 911 or contact your county crisis. Allegheny County residents can contact Resolve Crisis Services at 1-888-796-8226. Resolve provides free, 24/7, 365-day crisis support to all residents of Allegheny County, regardless of ability to pay. Their services are sponsored by Allegheny County and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. You can also contact 988 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
