School Based Therapy

CAPS offers school-based services through partnerships with local school districts, including individual therapy, medication management, and psychiatric evaluations. Each is available during the school day to meet different needs: therapy provides counseling support, medication management addresses prescriptions, and evaluations assess and diagnose mental health conditions.

Individual therapy consists of a therapist offering individual counseling sessions in the school setting to help students manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. The therapist will work with students to develop positive behavioral strategies and coping mechanisms. This can include creating individualized support plans.

Psychiatric evaluation and medication management include reviewing the child's medical, psychological, and educational history. The process often involves interviews with the child, parents, and teachers. It may also include rating scales to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Based on the assessment, the evaluator may provide a diagnosis and recommend interventions, accommodations, and supports to help the child succeed in school.
